7 days Yuva Aapda Mitra Scheme Training Inaugurated at Lamrin Tech Skills University, Punjab

7 days Yuva Aapda Mitra Scheme (YAMS) training was inaugurated today at Lamrin Tech Skills University, Punjab, under the visionary leadership of Deputy Commissioner Shri Ankurjeet Singh, IAS. A batch of 100 young volunteers was formally inducted to begin structured disaster-response training.
Ms. Ratan Kaur, NSS Coordinator LTSU Punjab, served as the coordinator of the event and ensured the smooth execution of the inaugural session.
The Yuva Aapda Mitra Scheme, an NDMA initiative, aims to develop trained youth volunteers who can serve as community first responders during emergencies. The program will equip them with essential skills in search and rescue, first aid, and disaster management.
The event was graced by Col. Dalbir Singh, GM (TPC) cum Head, Centre for Disaster Management, who is leading the YAMS initiative in Punjab. In his inaugural address, he discussed the objectives of the scheme, provided an overview of the training framework, and highlighted the critical need for community-level preparedness.
Dr. Sohnu, NSS Programme Officer Rayat College of Law, also addressed the gathering. He spoke about the importance of the scheme, the reasons behind its introduction by the government, and encouraged students to maintain discipline and regular attendance throughout the training.
The session further benefitted from insights shared by Disaster Management Professional Shri Sudesh Bedi and his expert team, whose technical expertise and on-ground experience added significant value to the orientation and upcoming modules.
Senior officials from MGSIPA, SDMA, and the university also addressed the volunteers, emphasizing the role of youth in building community resilience. They expressed confidence that the newly inducted volunteers would greatly strengthen local preparedness and response systems.
The volunteers will now undergo intensive training in disaster risk reduction, emergency response techniques, and coordination mechanisms. With this launch, Punjab takes a significant step toward building a trained and proactive volunteer force capable of supporting communities during natural calamities and critical incidents.
